legend of the guardians

We headed to ResortsWorld Cinema to watch Legend of Guardians, The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Oh my, the animation itself, exemplary!hehe The film is stunning and breathtaking, probably the most beautiful looking film since Avatar (oh yeah) but after you get over that fact what then? I was really looking forward to this film and the animation did not disappoint, however the film itself did. The story falls short but nonetheless High-5 ... read morejust for the amazing animation and all the credit goes to the WB animation studios who have perfected bird and landscape animation after the super hit "Happy Feet". This film has the dark tones and epic scale to be an awesome film but in the hands of director Zack Snyder(300) its missing the heart, if you’re such a pussy or a baby. I just can’t wait for the second part.

alice in zombieland

I can still remember how I lined up myself back in college for the first installment. This is one of my fave popcorn movie. But back then, Alice looked athlethic and ready to kick some ass but now she looks even better, like a hot European prostitute. As usual the movie was stylish, even somewhat intense at times. That’s a problem with the whole film there’s no urgency. No sense breaking a sweat. I missed the blood-squirting and and awesome OST. The movie is literally an hour and a half music video jam-packed with uninspired Nine Inch Nails riffs and drumbeats. It reminded me of the 90s when you’d hear the exact same song in a movie over and over, only they’d change is ever so slightly (you know, like slow it down, speed it up, or scream it with passion). It’s nothing but a “pizza night” movie! BooYeah!

despicable exorcism

BER-months just started. weather is getting cold during at night. this weekend, saw one of my anticipated film, The Last Exorcism. after that, we met up with long-time-no-see friends. we fetched them from their condo at soho central beside edsa shangrila then strolled the metro. we ended up tumambay sa isang tagong inuman just around timog in quezon city. it was good to have that kind of talk. yung lahat nakaka-relate. it was really nice though. it was a chillout-mojito-vodka mode saturday for me. next day, we headed to powerplant to check out some suits then decided to watch Despicable Me. good part about this post is ive got to write something about the two movies.

for The Last Exorcism, contrary to what its marketing over internet trending topics, it doesn't feature possessed girls scaling walls or ceilings. its a faux documentary starts out with a deadpan delivery and dry sense of humor. the director created a suspenseful mode thru the naturalism of the film's look. there are moments that will make you hold your breath and others will make you want to look away (yup, i must admit that hehehe). - and a jaw-droppingly bad ending that slams the momentum the director has built to a thudding halt. it doesn't cancel out the good things that have gone before, but it cheapens the experience. i applaud the "possessed girl" performance. sometimes a simple smile can more thoroughly creep you out than all the head-spinning and neck-breaking in the world.

Despicable Me, as a general film enthusiast i tend to sit through a lot of formulaic movies. hence im the first to criticize in our barkada. this animation, managed to take a well-worn concept and polish it to a hilarious and adorable shine. but for me the breakout character from the film will undoubtedly be Agnes, the youngest girl, and Gru’s yellow pill-shaped minions. not only does Agnes have some of the best lines in the movie (It’s so FLUFFY!), she’s just so adorable. the minions are certainly the film’s "merchandising scheme" but they also contribute a lot of the movie’s sight gags. it's a movie for dads, wannabe dads, don't wannabe dads, and the whole family.
